Lent Holy Week

Opening Prayer
"Lord Jesus Christ,in this sacred and solemn week when we see again the depth and mystery of your redeeming love, help us to follow where you go, to stop where you stumble, to listen when you cry, to hurt as you suffer, to bow our heads in sorrow when you die, so that when you are raised to life again we may share your endless joy. Amen.”
[from The Book of Common Order (Church of Scotland, Presbyterian)]

Meditate on the Psalms
Last Sunday’s call to worship was Psalm 31.

Next Sunday’s call to worship will be Psalm 118.

Growing in Grace: Pondering 2 Corinthians 3-6
  • How can you better cooperate with Christ’s love being shown through you (2 Corinthians 5.11-14)?
  • As we contemplate holy week, how is the Lord leading you to pick up your cross and die to self? As we anticipate Resurrection Sunday, how is the Lord leading you to be filled with the life and power of Christ (2 Corinthians 5.14-16)?
  • With this ministry of reconciliation, to whom is God calling you as his ambassador (2 Corinthians 5.18-21)?
  • We have been pondering, this Lent, how we are made new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5.17) and yet are being renewed by the Spirit more into the image of Jesus (2 Corinthians 3.17, 18). What are some of the lessons you have learned during this journey to grow in grace? Continuing to be willing to learn these lessons is part of how to not take the grace of God in vain (2 Corinthians 6.1)

Closing Prayer
"O ALMIGHTY GOD, we come to seek the Living among the living and to follow Christ as he goes before us…into joys eternal. Let the hope of his Resurrection shine in our praises, as it leads us into more faithful witness and more joyful service; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns in glory everlasting. Amen.

The Light of radiant dawn streams out,
And praise fills heaven all about.
Earth echoes the exultant shout,
And groaning hell is put to rout.”
(St. Augustine, 4th Century)
