Ascension Pot-Luck
On the church calendar we are inhabiting the Easter season. We are moving towards celebrating the Ascension and Pentecost. This is a great time to reflect on our Father of grace. Who rips the temple veil at Jesus’ death and now gives us the Holy Spirit to stay with us.
What a great provision of God: to fill us with His life by the Holy Spirit. As the Nicene Creed reads, "we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life." Kathey wonderfully set up for us last week (April 16) our “fight” is to function and live in grace. We do not live in the flesh by pseudo-spiritual means. A legalistic approach to sanctification cannot make us holy. Nor can attempting to handle life in our own strength can sustain us. Rather we live in the Holy Spirit, the giver of life.
In this sermon series we will affirm what it means to live in the Life of the Spirit. For we know that we cannot save ourselves. Jesus fulfills the law for us. Our striving to follow the law can never result in righteousness. We know that we cannot sanctify ourselves. Any attempts to follow the law results in nothing more than living in the flesh.
This study will lead us to our celebration of the Ascension and Pentecost! We will gather on Ascension Thursday, May 18 for a Pot-Luck Dinner, downstairs in the Social Hall at 6:30 p.m. Our discussion will center on how Spirit living impacts how we approach leadership within the local church.
